Whether you’re on holiday or you just love scouring the countryside looking for great deals and unique antiques, the summer is the best time of the year to visit Canada’s best antique shows.
Apart from Canada’s love for flea markets, yard and garage sales, the country is also known for many small shops that hold hidden vintage and antique treasures.
Here’s a ’starter’ list of the best antique shows, stops and regions, in Canada and the time of year to find them.
Ontario
Antiques of the Brick Works
Mid-June and hosted in Toronto. No reproductions are allowed at time of this writing. (Bayview extension)
Heritage Antique Market
First week of July. Also in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Hosted at the Bayview Village Shopping Center. A busy, well established, antique show.
The Perth Antique Show
Also on the first weekend of July. Locate the Royal Canadian Legion along the Tay Canal in downtown Perth. The show has recently celebrated their 190th birthday so you are sure to f ind just the right piece. Perth is also a lovely place to visit so plan on spending a few days wandering around the town and taking in some local architecture.
Yorkdale’s Antique Show
Hosted within the Yorkdale Shopping Center in the north-east end of Toronto. Mid-July.
Annual Muskoka Antique Show
Hosted in Ontario’s Cottage Country (Port Carling). The Port Carling Community Center is found on Bailey Stree and this antique show holds approximately 400 vendors. Sure to please even the discerning antique hunter.
Christie Antique Show
Usually hosted on Labor Day weekend in Canada in the town of Dundas. This is Canada’s largest antique show!
Alberta
Calgary’s Summer Antique Show
The first weekend of June you’ll find one of the hottest spot for collectors in this province. Well known, after 13 years of showing and full of vendors and sellers. Well over 100 booths and displays. Calgary, Canada, Olympic Park
Antiques at Spruce Meadows
In the heat of the summer you’ll find the ‘Antiques at Spruce Meadows’ show taking place mid to late August. Many dealers travel from neighbouring provinces of Canada. Heading into Spruce Meadows you’ll find this show at the Equiplex (follow the signs).
British Columbia
North Shore Antiques Fair
Second weekend of July and held in West Vancouver, British Columbia. Watch for signs to the arena located on 22nd street. This show is less than 10 years running, but over 200 local vendors arrive to sell and show their antiques.
Burnaby Lake Antiques Fair
In Burnaby (near Vancouver), in the last week of August every year. Takes place at the Burnaby Lake Sports Center. The show is new but again turns out a big crowd with about 300 tables.
